What flag are you reppin’? Join us at the Luton International Carnival ‘24!
We are excited to announce that the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT) is partnering with the UK Centre for Carnival Arts for the Luton International Carnival as their charity partner. On the 27th of May 2024, we will be situated at St. George’s Square all day, talking to you about registering to donate and celebrating with you!
“The Carnival Arts have been a part of our journey and are always keen to support us with our mission. Being present in the Carnival spaces allows us to raise greater awareness of patient needs and the ability to register as a potential lifesaver. We are so pleased to be their Charity Partners this year because with their support we can continue Changing Attitudes, Giving Hope and Saving Lives.”
Sabrina Jarett, National Development Manager at ACLT

So, what flag are you reppin' at this years #LIC24?
Did you know that donation is ethnicity-specific and that your donor is likely to be reppin’ the same flag as you? (or in other words from the same heritage).
ACLT highlight how there is a lack of Black African and Caribbean donors on donor registers – but we will be registering everyone who is interested at the event!
Our story started in 1993 when Daniel De-Gale was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. He became the 1st black individual in the UK to receive a stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor. Unfortunately, due to complications with his health, Daniel passed in 2008. Daniel’s story could have been different if his match had been found sooner.
We want to create a future where no one has to wait for their donor match and you can help shape that future – so take 5 minutes out of the celebrations, we will be situated on St.George’s Square, whether it is to find out more or register, come say hi!
“This is an exciting time for Luton, and I am grateful to be able to say I am a part of a tradition that incorporates diversity, accessibility, culture, and unity. The feedback we receive each year is overwhelming and we strive to improve the carnival each time, whilst maintaining our core values of creating togetherness through the various carnival arts.”
Claudette Whittingham, Executive Director for UK Centre for Carnival Arts
