Curtis - "I am on cloud nine after donating Stem Cells"
Back in 2014, Hector Allen, unfortunately lost his battle with acute leukaemia. Given the nickname ‘Stretch’ due to his height, Hector was supported by ACLT and loved by many before he died.
After his passing, Hector’s family and friends hosted a memorial service for him and kindly invited the ACLT to sign people up for the stem cell register. On a cold, dull night in October 2014, five representatives from the ACLT, including Co-founders Beverley De-Gale OBE and Orin Lewis OBE, signed guests up to the Anthony Nolan register.

Curtis, Hector Allen's nephew
Earlier this week, we received a phone call that made us happier than ever. We were given the news that, Hector Allen’s nephew, Curtis, donated his stem cells to an unrelated recipient. Once again this shows it only takes one person to step forward to make a difference. Curtis has made that difference.
Every year one of the main objectives of the ACLT is to sign-up as many people as possible to the stem cell register. This dates back to the beginning of Daniel De-Gales’s story, who was the first person in the UK to receive a stem cell donation from an unrelated donor.
Curtis was back at work two days after donating his stem cells and is feeling fit and healthy. Described by his mum as ‘being on cloud nine’ Curtis has made his friends and family proud, but most importantly, has given someone a second chance at life.
