Who we are the ACLT?
The ACLT is a 40+ award winning blood cancer charity, founded in 1996 by Beverley De-Gale OBE and Orin Lewis OBE when their son Daniel was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukaemia, he became the 1st Black individual in the UK to receive a stem cell transplant for an unrelated donor.
He later passed from health complications due to waiting too long to find his ethnically matched donor.
An investment with the greatest return- saving lives
A future where donor registers reflect the rich diversity of our communities, and no one dies waiting for a life-saving match.
We advocate, educate, and support communities to break down barriers and reduce waiting times for those in need.
To drive more donor registrations through targeted campaigns, strategic partnerships, corporate and community support.
Our Impact
Daniel’s Story
In 1993, Daniel De-Gale was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. He became the 1st black individual in the UK to receive a stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor. Unfortunately, due to complications with his health, Daniel passed in 2008. Daniel’s story could have been different if his match had been found sooner.
According to NHS, Blood and Transplant, only 37% of transplant recipients from minority ethnic backgrounds receive the best stem cell donor match from an unrelated donor, compared to nearly 72% for Caucasian people.
This is why we work towards a future where no one dies waiting for the donor match.
