One Drop - Part 1
Watch One Drop, a heartwarming and humorous short film encouraging lifesaving blood donations. The African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT) is proud to announce the release of One Drop, a poignant and uplifting short film that challenges perceptions and inspires action around blood donation, particularly within the African Caribbean community.
Take a look of part 1 of the One Drop series…
There is a critical need for blood donation in the African Caribbean Community, every year, over 135,000 new donors are needed in the UK to meet the growing demand for blood transfusions. However, the statistics reveal a troubling disparity:
>Fewer than 5% of regular blood donors in the UK are from Black, Asian, or minority ethnic backgrounds.
>Blood from donors of African or Caribbean heritage is crucial for treating conditions such as sickle cell disease, which disproportionately affects these communities.
>Without a well-matched blood supply, patients face severe complications, underscoring the urgent need for more diverse donors
At ACLT, we believe in changing lives One Drop at a time we are committed to raising awareness and transforming attitudes toward blood donation within the African Caribbean diaspora. With One Drop, we hope to spark conversations, dispel myths, and encourage individuals to take that first step toward saving a life. Ethnically matched blood donations save lives, one drop at a time.
